Mr. Kristijan Karan participated in the international conference ''FED-Lex: The Future of European Digital Legislation – Shaping Policies for Innovation and Protection'', held on April 3–4, 2025, at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, University of Szeged, in Hungary.
The conference was organized by the University of Szeged in cooperation with several academic research groups, including the Digitalization and Democracy Research Group and the Law and Competitiveness Research Group, within the framework of the Centre of Excellence for Interdisciplinary Research, Development and Innovation.
The FED-Lex conference addressed the evolving relationship between digital innovation and legal regulation in the European Union, with a focus on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. As the EU continues to position itself as a global regulatory leader, the event explored how legislation can strike a balance between promoting innovation and safeguarding ethical standards and fundamental rights. By bringing together experts from various EU Member States, the conference fostered dialogue on national approaches, legal harmonization, and policy development. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors, and offered a platform for both senior and early-career researchers to contribute to the discussion on shaping future-ready and value-driven digital regulation in Europe.
The event gathered legal experts, researchers, and policymakers from across Europe to discuss legal challenges and regulatory perspectives in the context of digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and EU digital policy. Mr. Karan’s participation reflects his ongoing engagement with the intersection of law, technology, and international cooperation, particularly in light of emerging European legal frameworks affecting both private and public sectors.
